_______

If you follow my Instagram account for OsoPorto, you're familiar with my almost-but-not-always daily shots where I try to capture a bit of the character of the El Porto neighborhood. These snaps evolved into the canvasbox prints available here, but that as well as the continuous chronicle was never really part of the plan or idea for OsoPorto. I first just started posting occasional neighborhood shots to claim the Instagram name, but the account gained a following and took on a life of its own. Even after launching the OsoPorto site with shirts and other goods, I've tried to be careful not to turn the OsoPorto instagram into a typical retail advertising account.

A few of those OsoPorto shots, along with work by three local photographers: South Bay Muse, RP Photography, and Arlene P Carley Photography, will be featured in an exhibit of daily life in the South Bay called "Snapshots of the South Bay." The exhibit is part of Month of Photography Los Angeles, presented by the Lucie Foundation and held in a space that is part of Phantom Galleries Los Angeles, which revitalizes and energizes communities and pedestrian thoroughfares by transforming unoccupied properties throughout Los Angeles County into vibrant cultural hubs through the 24/7 public presentation of art. Phantom Galleries LA in Hawthorne is managed and curated by Martha De Perez with Phantom Galleries LA founder Liza Simone.

Come join us for the opening Sunday April 19 from 4-8pm at 12609 Hawthorne Blvd, 90250. The space is also open Saturday May 9 as well as gladly available to view by appointment anytime in between by calling 213.537.4483. (photos below are by all 4 of the photographers mentioned above)

[ps - mention it at the opening and I'll give you a discount code for your next order of anything here on osoporto.com!]
